Gentle, Age-Appropriate Care for Children

At Dana Vo OD, we offer pediatric eye exams designed to support your child’s growing vision needs. From their very first screening through their teenage years. Exams are adapted to your child’s age and comfort level, and our team is experienced in working with infants, toddlers, and school-age children.

We create a stress-free experience where children feel at ease, and parents stay informed with care available in English, Vietnamese, and Spanish.

When Should Children Have Their First Eye Exam?

We recommend:

  • First exam at 6–12 months of age

  • Second exam at age 3–5

  • Yearly exams starting at age 6

Many vision problems in children are hard to notice, especially if they’ve never known anything different. Early exams help us detect issues before they interfere with learning, behavior, or development.

What We Check During a Pediatric Exam

Your child’s exam may include:

  • Vision sharpness and prescription

  • Eye movement and muscle coordination

  • Depth perception and tracking

  • Lazy eye (amblyopia) and eye turns (strabismus)

  • Colour vision

  • Myopia (nearsightedness) progression

Our exams are non-invasive and adjusted to your child’s age and attention span. We use fun, child-friendly methods, no reading required.

Myopia Screening & Management

More kids are becoming nearsighted at younger ages. We offer early myopia screenings and education for families, including MiSight® lenses, the first FDA-approved contact lenses designed to slow the progression of childhood myopia.

Coming soon: Ortho-k lenses, which reshape the eye overnight to reduce the need for glasses or contacts during the day.

Signs Your Child May Need an Eye Exam

Even if your child doesn’t mention vision problems, these signs may indicate it’s time for an exam:

  • Squinting or tilting the head

  • Frequent eye rubbing or blinking

  • Trouble focusing or staying engaged

  • Avoiding reading or screen activities

  • Holding books or screens very close

  • Complaints of headaches or tired eyes

If you notice any of these signs, or if it’s simply time for a check-up, we’re here to help.
